Settled in 1753, Putney remains to this day a lively rural community where travelers are welcome, where writers, artists and crafts people have traditionally found inspiration and support. If you’re looking for town information check the municipal information page, and for historical information look at the historical pages. Putney is a great place to live and nice place to work. Innovative schools have flourished here, the arts have found a home here; our artisans produce some of Vermont’s most beautiful crafts. Sacketts Brook, which once turned a dozen water wheels on its boisterous descent to the Connecticut River flows through the heart of the village where now you’ll find an eclectic collection of shops, inns, and gourmet delights. From there, Putney’s back roads lead to unspoiled country made for hiking, biking, and X-C skiing. We invite you to explore this site with links to many of our local crafts people, the Putney Craft Tour and the Local Food local farm directory.
Putney is located in Southern Vermont, just north of Dummerston and Brattleboro.
